Opis

In the far northwest of Croatia, in the idyllic village of Cvetlin behind Trakošćan, in the solitude of a gentle hill and on the state border with Slovenia, stands a white Zagorian "hiža", 300 years old!!! It is actually 2 connected "hiže" with a total area of 120 m2, on land measuring 9,344 m2, both valued and well-preserved examples of the traditional building style of the region (built around 1700), one of which even retains its original thatched roof, which the owner has protected with tarpaulin. They are constructed from wooden beams in the so-called Croatian weave, daubed with clay and covered with bundles of rye straw, with a preserved three-room internal layout that creates 6 rooms across these 2 connected houses. Other features of these rare examples of indigenous architecture: along the length of the southern facade runs a smaller covered porch, the walls are articulated with small window openings, original carpentry with shutters, wooden floorboards are preserved, wooden ceilings with prominent beams, one preserved "black kitchen", 2 very beautiful fireplaces, original room arrangement and interior design featuring valuable pieces of furniture and domestic items (pottery, sacred objects and wicker-made items). From the north side of the building, access leads to a preserved stone cellar with traditional wine-making equipment, and further into the house there is a storage area containing many archaic items still in use. Since all features of this building method have been carefully maintained for centuries, the properties together with the inventory represent significant cultural, aesthetic, artistic and ethnographic value that must be preserved: the property was recently on the List of preventively protected cultural goods and is registered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia. On the northwestern side of the courtyard of this complex there is also a source of drinking water; the property has electricity and water. Other location details: - access via a passage under an upright oak cross with an outstretched Christ figure and a small wooden lime figure of the Virgin Mary; - from the benches in front of the house, there is a far-reaching view of the undulating Zagorian hillside countryside, endless beautiful fertile valleys and the Church of Saint Peter and Paul; - behind the "hiža" two old state boundary stones are planted side by side: 1. placed during the time of Empress Maria Theresa; on the other, Germans carved the letters NDH in 1941, and on the opposite, Slovenian side of the stone the large letter "D" (the letter indicated Deutschland, as the Hitler forces occupied and annexed Slovenia to the Third Reich).
