Completed dwellings in Croatia: what the 2024 figures measure
New-build listings often focus attention on individual projects. Croatia’s official completion statistics offer a different, retrospective view: they count homes completed during a reporting year and describe their useful floor area and type of construction.
The 2024 total in context
The Croatian Bureau of Statistics recorded 16,654 completed dwellings in 2024, with 1,581,544 square metres of useful floor area and an average useful floor area of 95.0 square metres. The dwelling count was 0.6% above 2023, while total useful floor area was 5.5% higher.1
One total, three routes to completion
Of the 2024 total, 15,606 dwellings were in new construction, 897 were created through extensions or additional storeys, and 151 through conversion of non-residential space. The headline total therefore covers more than dwellings in entirely new buildings.1
Completion data are not price data
The annual completion report is based on the GRAĐ-10 survey and field identification of buildings and dwellings completed in the reporting year. Croatia’s separate house-price index measures movements in market prices for residential properties bought by households and uses transaction data. The two series answer different statistical questions.1,2
