Construction activity in Croatia: reading monthly and quarterly measures

A single percentage describes only one slice of Croatia’s construction sector. Two recent statistical releases show why monthly movement, annual comparison and quarterly values should be read separately.

Two comparisons for the same month

In May 2026, the calendar-adjusted volume of construction work was 1.9% above May 2025. Compared with April 2026, the seasonally and calendar-adjusted volume was 0.1% lower, so the two figures use different periods and adjustments.1

Separate buildings from other structures

The calendar-adjusted annual comparison for May 2026 shows an increase of 0.6% for work on buildings and 3.2% for other structures. The overall change of 1.9% is therefore not a housing-only measure.1

Quarterly values have different coverage

For the first quarter of 2026, DZS reports new orders worth €1.650 billion and work performed with companies’ own workers worth €1.235 billion among businesses with at least 20 employees. These values complement the volume-based monthly index but do not replace it.1,2
